Bernardo Silva’s stance on potential Tottenham switch revealed

An insight into the openness, or rather lack thereof, of Manchester City star Bernardo Silva to link up with Premier League rivals Tottenham, has been forthcoming on Thursday afternoon.

‘Wants to leave’

The name of Portuguese midfielder Silva has of course taken centre stage in the media of late.

This comes with the 27-year-old, once such a vital cog in Pep Guardiola’s machine, having endured something of a down season last time out.

Silva, who notched just a pair of goals across 26 Premier League appearances, came in for heavy criticism from sections of the Sky Blues faithful in 2020/21, amid concerns that the ex-Monaco man will never again quite manage to hit the heights of his debut campaign at the Etihad.

Add to this the summer arrival of Jack Grealish, accompanied by the emergence of Phil Foden, and speculation surrounding Silva’s future in Manchester was always likely to follow in short order.

The situation, in turn, came to a head earlier this month, when Pep Guardiola essentially confirmed that his under-performing midfield star was eyeing a move elsewhere:

‘He’s our player. Not just Bernardo, there are two or three players that want to leave but they are our players and when they bring some offer and they want to leave we are open to discuss but it depends on them.’

No to Spurs

To this point, no definitive proposals are understood to have arrived for Silva, but one potential landing spot has nevertheless been floated in the media of late.

The destination comes in the form of Tottenham.

Amid City’s lengthy chase of Lilywhites talisman Harry Kane, the possibility has been floated that Silva could make the move to North London, as part of an exchange deal.

If the latest word stemming from the media on Thursday is anything to go by, however, then such a move coming to fruition, as things stand, looks altogether unlikely.

As per the reliable Sam Lee of The Athletic, Silva has made it abundantly clear that he has no interest in a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It is added, though, that:

The 27-year-old will be allowed to leave City this summer should a suitable offer arrive and his agent, Jorge Mendes, has been in Manchester this week to try to find a solution.

The Portuguese international is understood to have his sights set on a move to Spain.
