Bayern Munich dealt injury blow ahead of Villareal clash

Bayern Munich have been dealt a blow on the injury front ahead of their Champions League quarter final clash with Villareal.

The Spanish side, who won the Europa League last campaign, are the surprise package of the last eight, having defeated Juventus 3-0 to claim their place in the quarter-finals in the last round.

And as such, while it is perhaps an easy fixture on paper for the Bavarian outfit, with the Yellow Submarine just seventh in La Liga, there is certainly the opportunity for an upset on the part of Unai Emery’s men, not least because Bayern looked less than convincing in their first leg against Red Bull Salzburg.

And, as perhaps Julien Nagelsmann has become used to, his side will have to make do without French midfielder Corentin Tolisso, who picked up an injury in their 4-1 win over SC Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. The midfielder, who came on as a substitute, had to be removed once more as it emerged that he could not continue.

As per German outlet Bild, ‘the Bayern star has torn a muscle fiber again and will be missing again for around three to four weeks’, meaning that he is set to be out for both legs of their Champions League tie.

Bayern to go all the way?

In Robert Lewandowski, Bayern undoubtedly have one of the best forwards in world football right now, and they will need him to be fully fit should they wish to mount a serious claim for the Champions League trophy this campaign.

Knocked out by Paris Saint Germain last season, should they defeat Villareal then they will face a clash with either Liverpool or Benfica in the semi-finals, in theory the ‘easier’ side of the draw. They are in with a shot of Champions League glory once more, but they will have to be at their best to do so.
