Barcelona president issues worrying contract update on Ousmane Dembele

Ousmane Dembele out of contract in the summer

It would be almost a fitting end to Ousmane Dembele’s Barcelona career were he to depart on a free transfer in the summer.

The Frenchman was signed as a replacement for Neymar in 2017, but has failed to stay injury-free and has, as a result, had little impact in Catalonia.

With six months left on his contract, speculation continues to swirl around his future, much of it contradictory, as shown below.

Contract talks stalling?

Now, Barcelona president Joan Laporta has issued an update on his contract situation, and it is more than a little worrying for the Blaugrana faithful.

As reported by reliable transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Laporta claimed:

“Dembélé’s renewal is going slower than we wanted. But we’re still working on it – we want Ousmane to stay, he could be a key player if we’ll reach an agreement”

With the French winger able to agree pre-contracts come January, which could see his wages bumped up, and the seemingly concrete interest on Barcelona’s part in Manchester City winger Ferran Torres, could we see Dembele’s future lie away from the Camp Nou?
