Barcelona look to take advantage of Antonio Conte’s arrival with move for out of favour Tottenham midfielder

Conte appointed Tottenham manager

Yesterday, Tottenham Hotspur announced that Antonio Conte would be in charge in north London for the next 18 months, 36 hours after parting ways with Nuno Espirito Santo.

Santo lasted just 4 months in charge, but was deemed too unpopular following a hostile atmosphere during his side’s 3-0 home defeat to Manchester United on Saturday evening.

As a result, Levy and co. moved fast, appointing their number one target from the summer, and seemingly buckling to whatever demands had prevented him from taking over four months prior.

It remains to be seen how much the personnel changes at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the coming months, but a central midfielder is seemingly a priority, with rumours of a move for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie nearing completion already circulating.

Barca look to exploit the uncertainty

Amidst the chaos in north London, Barcelona are seeking to take advantage. As per various reports coming out of Spain, they are looking to make a move for out of favour Tottenham man Tanguy Ndombele, who was keen to depart the club in the summer.

The Frenchman has struggled under multiple managers in north London, and is now reportedly keen on pastures new, and would surely be open to a move to Barcelona. However, an obvious issue arises despite the interest.

As per Jason Burt of the Telegraph, Tottenham were demanding 60 million euros for Ndombele in the summer, while the Spanish outlets suggest instead that Barcelona will look to a loan move for the midfielder.

This would seem unlikely to fly for Spurs, even should they add Kessie to their ranks, given the expense that they committed to bringing Ndombele to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium in the first place. As they have shown once already this season, they are not against keeping players against their will should unsatisfactory offers come in.
