Barcelona look to bring two in during January transfer window

Barcelona aim to add two in January

New Barcelona boss Xavi will hope to finally get his recruitment program off the ground starting in January after reports suggest the Catalan giants will hope to bring in two names during the winter transfer window.

That comes from Barça Universal while citing SER Catalunya’s Sique Rodriguez who stated that the club wants to add two into the first-team ranks after their start to life under Xavi has not been the fairytale homecoming some would have wanted.

The two prevailing names linked with moves to the Camp Nou are Manchester City forward Ferran Torres and River Plate’s Argentine winger Julián Álvarez.

Recent reports from Argentine outlet Olé claim that not only is Álvarez on the wishlist at Barcelona but that Spanish giants have already held talks between the two clubs for the 21-year-old who reportedly has a €20million release clause.

As for Torres, the Spanish international has made no secret of his desire to return to Spain which was already given the green light by boss Pep Guardiola. Interest in both wingers speaks to the desire from Xavi to add quality in the wide areas of the pitch if he is to successfully implement his preferred brand of football.

Barça learn Europa League fate

The notion that dropping down to the Europa League will guarantee Barcelona an easier path to European honors this season was put to bed today after the Spanish giants learned their potential opponents in the next round of the competition.

Barcelona will learn their fate on Monday during the draw and will have to contend with one of SSC Napoli, SS Lazio, Glasgow Rangers, Dinamo Zagreb, Sporting Clube de Braga, or Olympiacos.

The Camp Nou will host the first leg to be played on 17 February and should they reach the round of 16, will be met with further stiff competition from Europa League sides like West Ham, Olympique Lyonnais, AS Monaco and Bayer Leverkusen, as well as Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, FC Porto, and Atalanta Bergamo all four of whom also failed to reach the knockout stage of the Champions League.

There is a chance for Barcelona to lift another European trophy on home soil, however, with Sevilla hosting the final on 18 May.
