Barcelona home kit leaked online; 2021-22 Champions League shirt honors city neighborhoods
Barcelona to compete in Champions League in style
It is a shame that Barcelona will be donning their leaked home shirt for the 2021-22 Champions League campaign for their continental adventures rather than in La Liga.

Thanks to a keen eye by fans on UEFA’s official website for Champions League fantasy football, Barça’s exclusive European home kit has now been confirmed.
The immediate reaction, at least from this kit enthusiast, is one of high approval. With thick vertical stripes and black trim, the shirt has a throwback feel to Barcelona of days that featured heavy Dutch influence in the late 90s through the likes of the De Boer brothers, Phillip Cocu, Patrick Kluivert, Boudewijn Zenden, Winston Bogarde, and Michael Reiziger.
That same team also included Rivaldo, Pep Guardiola, Luís Figo, Luis Enrique, and youthful Xavi, and the timing could not be more appropriate considering renewed Dutch influence through manager Ronald Koeman along with Memphis Depay, Luuk de Jong, and Frenkie de Jong all being key pieces for the club this season.
A city honored; hometown neighborhoods shown appreciation
One of the leading football cities on the planet, Barcelona and Barça are intertwined in a manner that most clubs can only hope to achieve. So too was the fact that the city held the summer Olympic Games in 1992, and it was his aspect that became the focus of Nike when they enlisted the help of locals for inspiration.
“To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the 1992 Olympic Games in the city, the Nike FC Barcelona 2021-22 Champions League home football shirt features illustrations that highlight landmarks of various Barcelona neighborhoods inside the stripes. These include, among others, the three chimneys of Poble Sec or the original La Masia, which is located next to the Camp Nou.
In total, the quarters that feature on the Nike FC Barcelona 2021-2022 Champions League home shirt are Les Corts, Sant Antoni, Sants, El Raval, Poble Sec and Gràcia. According to the report, Nike spoke with residents and let them draw what they thought most represented their neighborhood on a scarf. Nike then took these ideas to develop the design of the Nike Barcelona 2021-2022 Champions League home shirt.” [exerpt from Footyheadlines article linked above]
Thus, the design remains unique to Barcelona both regarding the city and the club, but it does pave the way for further Nike projects regarding further kit concepts that could go down a similar pathway.
