Barcelona fans look away: Lionel Messi PSG jerseys spotted for sale in Paris

Images of Paris Saint-Germain jerseys with Lionel Messi’s name emblazoned across the back have come to the fore online this evening.

Camp Nou exit

The announcement which Barcelona fans across the globe were no doubt dreading more than any other was of course forthcoming this past Thursday.

This came in the form of confirmation that, after making his way through the club’s youth ranks to ultimately establish himself as the finest player in world football, Lionel Messi would be bringing an end to his Blaugrana adventure.

Just hours after it had been widely reported that an agreement between the two parties was close, Barca released a statement, confirming that they had essentially been left with no choice but to part with their captain and talisman.

This came on the back of ‘financial and structural obstacles’ laid in the path of the Catalans by none other than Spanish football authority, La Liga.

PSG switch imminent?

Widespread chatter, in turn, has since surrounded where Messi could end up next, with the legendary Argentine now available as a free agent.

The likes of Manchester City, Chelsea and Manchester United have all inevitably been tipped as potential landing spots, but, over the last 24 hours, a clear front-runner has emerged in the Messi sweepstakes.

The outfit in question? Paris Saint-Germain.

French heavyweights PSG have of course enjoyed a remarkable summer to date, with all of Gianluigi Donnarumma, Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Ramos and Georginio Wijnaldum having made their way to the Parc des Princes.

If the latest word stemming from the media over the last 24 hours is anything to go by, though, then the Parisians appear far from done, with Messi looking primed to reunite with close friend Neymar in Ligue 1 over the coming weeks:

Whilst the PSG faithful, in turn, are no doubt licking their lips at the tantalising prospect of a Messi-Neymar-Mbappe front-3, those of a Barcelona persuasion have been left to ponder the ramifications of a future without the club’s greatest ever player.

And, as outlined above, on Saturday, salt has continued to be rubbed into the wounds of the Blaugrana’s reeling fanbase.

This comes with Paris Saint-Germain jerseys complete with Messi’s name and alleged new shirt number having been spotted for sale in the French capital:
