Neto emerges as a target for Arsenal

With Barcelona clearly struggling financially, it is unsurprising that clubs have begun to circle for their assets, hoping for a cheap deal. Arsenal are one of those, with the Athletic reporting that the club will be looking at goalkeeper Neto as they search for a number 2 shot stopper.

The club had been thought to be close to a deal for Aaron Ramsdale, but reports last night revealed that talks had broken down due to their valuation being too far apart from Sheffield United’s. As a result, the Gunners have turned to the Barca no.2.

As per the report, “Arsenal may be hopeful of striking a loan agreement” for the 32 year old goalkeeper, who would be brought in solely to provide backup to Bernd Leno. With Barcelona in desperate need of trimming the wage bill, they may be forced to entertain the offer.

Benfica move for Umtiti

Another potential departure comes in the form of French centre-back Samuel Umtiti, who has been linked with a move to Portuguese side Benfica.

As per the Portuguese Record, injury to Jan Vertonghen has forced Benfica to dip into the transfer market for another defender, with Umtiti potentially available on a free transfer due to the Catalan club’s financial woes.

Umtiti has struggled in Barcelona since his 2018 move, and has seemingly lost the faith of his own fans, who booed him every time he touched the ball in their last fixture.

A move away may be the best outcome for all parties, but will Benfica be able to facilitate his hefty wage demands?

No more signings unless Braitwaite departs

Meanwhile, there is a clear issue with incomings. Toni Juanmarti, considered reliable for all things Barcelona, took to Twitter to explain the situation, saying that:

There will be no more signings. Koeman met yesterday with the technical secretariat and asked for a midfielder and a forward. The club told him that his request will not be possible. He would only go for a ‘9’ if Braithwaite left and at a good price.

With Braithwaite currently not attracting much interest, however, Koeman may be forced to work with what he has in the post-Messi era.
