Barcelona dealt major injury blow after Clasico defeat/Ansu Fati concern also emerges
The woes of La Liga giants FC Barcelona have continued to mount on Sunday evening…
Vazquez strikes late
Ronald Koeman’s side were of course back in action earlier on Sunday.
After steadying the ship courtesy of successive victories over Valencia and Dynamo Kyiv over the course of the last week, the Blaugrana returned to league action, in a crunch Clasico showdown with Real Madrid.
Barca headed into proceedings in the knowledge that a 3rd-straight win across all competitions would in fact have guided them clear of Carlo Ancelotti and co. in the Spanish top-flight table.
Unfortunately for Koemana and co., however, such an outcome was ultimately not forthcoming.
Instead, it was Real who went on depart the Camp Nou with all three points, owing to a 2-1 final scoreline.
David Alaba and Lucas Vazquez proved the difference-makers for Los Blancos on the day, notching either side of half-time to render Sergio Aguero’s injury-time strike little more than a consolation.

Barcelona, in turn, have slipped to a lowly 9th in the La Liga table, on the back of an altogether underwhelming opening to the campaign.
As outlined above, however, the eventual result in Catalunya this evening actually proved far from the sole concern for the struggling Blaugrana.
As confirmed post-match, Frenkie de Jong, widely singled out for criticism owing to his display versus Real, in fact played through much of the action whilst carrying an injury.
The Dutchman is understood to be struggling with a hamstring problem, which, according to Toni Juanmarti of Spanish outlet Sport, looks likely to force him out of the club’s upcoming meeting with Rayo Vallecano on Wednesday night.
Barring a swift recovery, de Jong could too then miss Barca’s ensuing outing against Alaves.

The worries of the Catalans, though, do not end there.
As per a further report from Javi Miguel of Diario AS, Ansu Fati also departed the Clasico prematurely owing to a problem in his knee.
Though the issue is not viewed as a serious one, the Spanish starlet’s availability for the week ahead has now too been thrown into doubt, ahead of another challenging stretch ahead for the under-fire Ronald Koeman to navigate.
