Barcelona center-back Clément Lenglet issues apology after controversial photo after loss to Bayern Munich

Lenglet sends apology after controversial photo

Barcelona and French international center-back Clément Lenglet was the focus of heated fan reaction after the Blaugrana suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of German giants Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena last night.

After the full-time whistle, Lenglet was pictured laughing with star striker Robert Lewandowski, which drew backlash from Barcelona supporters on social media platforms after the gravity of the Champions League group stage loss while also being reported on by Spanish outlet MARCA and a number of other outlets.

In response, Lenglet took to his personal Instagram account to issue an apology to Barcelona fans around the world;

“I want to send a message to the Cule fans. Firstly, my sadness about yesterday’s result, this club only deserves the biggest and we have not been able to meet it.

The second explain a picture of me smiling with Lewandowski about something that had just happened at the moment. It’s a timely reaction that does not reflect my feeling about the result at all. My values are unquestionable and love for my professon, for Barça, and especially for its fans. I would never have a reaction like this for something that hurts us all so much since yesterday.

Today we are very sad but now we have a mission; to return Barça where it deserves.”

Barcelona reeling after shock Champions League exit

Last night’s 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in conjunction with SL Benfica’s 2-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv condemned Barcelona to drop down to the Europa League after what can only be described as an abysmal Champions League campaign.

Barça managed just two goals all group stage, and the sight of one of the three biggest clubs in world football failing to qualify for the knockout stage for the first time in the competition since David O’Leary’s Leeds United sent them packing back in 2000-01 was completely unexpected.

Now, Barcelona may be prepared to ship a trio of players out of the Camp Nou in the wake of the humiliation with a list that includes a trio of big names; Marc Andre Ter-Stegen, Frenkie De Jong, and Sergiño Dest.

Though the inquest is sure to continue over the next several weeks, with new Barcelona Xavi unfortunately sure to draw scrutiny from the fans despite inheriting a mess left by Ronald Koeman, the club immediately needs to get back on track on all fronts as soon as possible.
