Aymeric Laporte future remains unclear given financial struggles abroad

Fabrizio Romano has once again weighed in with news regarding Manchester City of late, with the Italian commenting on the speculative future of Spanish international Aymeric Laporte in a recent exclusive with SportsIllustrated affiliate City Xtra.

According to Romano, both Real Madrid and Barcelona have been linked to interest in the Spaniard, but the current financial struggles across Europe which have hit both Spanish giants have made it difficult for City to potentially move on from Laporte this summer. Barça is unable to pay for any deal that could be discussed, while Real is not in the market for a center-back despite Raphäel Varane jet-setting off to the red side of Manchester.

It was also mentioned that Manchester City offered Laporte to Tottenham, in a player plus cash deal for Harry Kane only to be expectedly rebuffed by the north London outfit. Laporte seems set to persist under Guardiola this season, though the longevity of his career at the Etihad is questionable.

Guardiola remains firmly interested in ‘exceptional’ Harry Kane

In yet another protracted transfer saga involving Manchester City, interest in Harry Kane remains a constant as far as manager Pep Guardiola is concerned.

Despite Kane finally reporting for training and potentially in line to feature for Nuno Espírito Santo’s outfit against Guardiola at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. But irrespective of that possibility, Pep remains in awe of Kane, a player who he deems as “exceptional.”

It is seemingly a match made in heaven as well. Kane’s known desire to challenge for major honors is public, while Manchester City has remained interested in securing his services across the entire summer, but even Guardiola will not wait forever if Spurs continue to delay any forward movement in negotiations.

“He (Kane) is a player for Tottenham Hotspur and if Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, it is finished. I think Man City and many clubs in the world want to try to sign him, we are not an exception, but it depends on Tottenham.

It is different to Jack (Grealish). He had the release [clause] and Jack is different. Harry is exceptional and we are interested in him but if Tottenham don’t want to negotiate, nothing more to say.”

Manchester City youngster Liam Delap could be Championship bound; multiple clubs interested

Despite Manchester City having yet to secure a replacement for long-time hitman Sergio Agüero, City could be prepared to send young forward Liam Delap on loan this season.

Delap has been prolific for the Citizens at youth level, scoring 24-goals in 20-appearances last season in the Premier League 2. Though he has already been given his full debut under Guardiola, a hopeful deal for Harry Kane and the continued existence of Gabriel Jesus would limit Delap’s involvement to the point where his development could suffer.

It has been reported that Championship outfit Derby Country retains an interest in the 18-year-old striker, along with at least two more clubs in the vein of West Bromwich Albion, and Stoke City. Delap himself is also happy to trust the club in how they handle his development, according to the player.

Though Derby are under a transfer embargo, the Championship side are still able to sign players on one-year loan deals, and that option could suit Wayne Rooney to the ground, with the former Manchester United star keen on bringing Delap back to the club;

“Liam Delap is a player I really like. He has connections with Derby, he came through the Academy here. Whatever Manchester City are doing with Liam, we are on top of that also and with James Garner and Teden Mengi, different players from different clubs we are on top if it.

Ultimately, it is on those clubs to see us as a suitable club for their players to go to and develop, so we have to wait and see on those players.”
