Austrian Grand Prix F1 Schedule: When is Next F1 Race After Styrian GP

Austrian Grand Prix F1 Schedule: When is Next F1 Race After Styrian GP

With the Styrian Grand Prix done and dusted, it’s time to move on to Round 9 of the 2021 Formula One season. Despite the next race titled the ‘Austrian Grand Prix,’ the Red Bull Ring will play host for the second successive race.

Although Spielberg was to host just one race initially, the cancellation of the Canadian Grand Prix forced a reshuffle in the F1 calendar. Hence, the upcoming Austrian Grand Prix rounds off a rare triple header in F1 after two successive races in France and Spielberg.

Just like other races, drivers will take part in three practice sessions followed by qualifying and the main race this weekend. In addition, the on-track schedule remains similar to the Styrian Grand Prix last weekend.

The on-track activities begin on Friday, July 2 with two out of three practice sessions. FP1 commences at 11:30am local time and 9:30am GMT, while FP2 commences at 3:00pm local time and 1:00pm GMT.

FP3, the final practice session, will take place on Saturday, July 3 at 12:00pm local time and 10:00am GMT. Post the practice sessions, the all-important qualifying sessions will begin at 3:00pm local time and 1:00pm GMT.

On Sunday, July 4, the weekend ends with the race, which will start at 3:00pm local time and 1:00pm GMT.

What can fans expect from the 2021 Austrian Grand Prix?

While the aftermath of the Styrian Grand Prix wears off, F1 teams don’t have to travel this week. Although this saves them from experiencing fatigue due to travel, some teams may look forward to this weekend more than others.

After a dominant victory last weekend, Max Verstappen and Red Bull will look to extend their lead in both championships on their home track. With the Austrian outfit looking much faster than Mercedes, another win here would make them believe 2021 is their year to win it all.

Lewis Hamilton will hope the Silver Arrows can find more pace to give stiffer competition to his title rival this weekend, while Valtteri Bottas will look to edge out Sergio Perez and claim another podium in Spielberg.

McLaren and Ferrari look to continue their midfield battle from where they left off last weekend. Although Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc brought home a double-points finish, neither finished above Lando Norris. The Briton took an impressive P5 finish to keep McLaren third in the constructor’s championship despite Daniel Ricciardo’s struggles.

After retiring in Lap 1 of the race, Pierre Gasly will look to make a solid comeback by scoring big points this weekend. AlphaTauri looked quick throughout last weekend, which shows their potential to score more points than Aston Martin this weekend.
