Australian Open 2023: when, where and how to watch

The Australian Open is here, kicking off tennis in 2023 with the first Grand Slam of the year.

After missing last year’s tournament for vaccine-related visa issues, Novak Djokovic is back and ready to try to redeem himself, although he will have to face defending champion Rafael Nadal – and even Andy Murray is back in the draw, although a first U-turn match against Italy’s Matteo Berrettini made his road to the final tricky from the get-go.

On the women’s side of the draw, number one Iga Swiatek is likely the favorite, especially as Naomi Osaka is now ruled out of the tournament after announcing her pregnancy. Britain’s Emma Raducanu is also in the competition, but an ankle injury last week may well limit her prospects.

The Australian Open starts on monday january 16 and ends on Sunday January 29.

How to watch on TV or online in the UK

In the UK, the tournament will be broadcast live on Eurosport, which is available via Sky, BT and Virgin Media.

If you prefer to watch from a computer or phone, you can do so via Discovery+, which costs £6.99 per month or £59.99 per year for a package including sports.

If you’re already an Amazon Prime subscriber, you might just prefer to watch this. You can add Eurosport to your Prime account, which normally costs £6.99 a month, and then watch on your TV, laptop, phone or tablet.

How to watch on TV or online from the US

If you’re in the US, you can watch on ESPN.

This may already be included in your cable package, but if not you can access it through the Sling online service. ESPN is included in the service’s Orange package – so it would cost $35 per month, although the first month is discounted to $25. There’s also a three-day free trial, so if you do it right, you can use that to watch the finale completely free.

You can also get ESPN+ for $9.99 per month, or as part of a bundle with Disney+ and Hulu, for $12.99 per month if you’re happy with ads on Hulu, or $19.99 per month. months if you want the ad-free version.

Finally, the tournament will also be broadcast on The Tennis Channel, which may also be available on your cable package, or via the Sling sports add-on.

Watch the Australian Open for Free with a VPN

If you want to watch live, you have a few options. The tournament is broadcast on Channel 9 in Australia, which is free to watch, and streamed live on 9Now. The only complication? You must be in Australia to access it and create an account with an Australian postcode.
