Aston Villa’s classy gesture to fans following Jack Grealish sale

Jack Grealish signs for Manchester City

Last night, Manchester City announced the signing of Jack Grealish from Aston Villa for a British-record fee.

The former-Villa man penned a six-year deal in the Northwest of England, reportedly worth 370,000 pounds per week, and has taken the number ten shirt at the Etihad stadium.

The transfer, confirmed by Villa to be worth 100 million pounds as per Grealish’s release clause, makes Grealish both the most expensive English transfer in history, and the most expensive Premier League signing (overtaking Harry Maguire and Paul Pogba respectively).

Aston Villa’s classy gesture

The Villains have already moved to replace Grealish, signing Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings to help make up for the loss of their talisman. The transfer strategy was refreshingly clearly outlined by Christian Purslow, the Aston Villa CEO, in a statement to the fans yesterday evening.

Villa have also offered the opportunity for anyone who bought a Jack Grealish shirt for the upcoming season to exchange it for a different shirt.

Villa fans were understandably hurt by the deal, with Grealish having been at the midlands outfit for 19 years. However, the gesture by the club, and the progression that Villa appear to be making this summer, should provide hope for the fanbase.
