Aston Villa fans call for Dean Smith’s head following Southampton defeat
The Aston Villa faithful have taken to social media in their numbers on Friday night, to call for the dismissal of manager Dean Smith.
Armstrong makes the difference
The Villans were of course back in action a short time ago.
On the back of an alarming dip in form of late, Smith and co. made the trip to St. Mary’s for a Premier League meeting with Southampton, eyeing a bounce-back result following a quartet of successive defeats.
When all was said and done in Hampshire, however, the woes of the visitors only deepened.
The latest in a string of underwhelming displays ultimately saw Villa put to the sword by a solitary goal, to remain just three points clear of the English top-flight’s relegation zone.
Adam Armstrong proved match-winner on the night, driving home a thunderous left-footed effort from the edge of the area inside three minutes to secure all three points for Southampton.
🗣 “What a way to end his goal drought.”

‘Time has come’
Safe to say, on the back of the full-time whistle sounding at St. Mary’s, it has not taken at all long for the Aston Villa faithful to make their feelings known.
A season which initially promised so much, owing to the big-money summer additions of all of Emi Buendia, Leon Bailey and Danny Ings, now sees the Claret and Blue looking like genuine candidates for the drop.
Since a thoroughly impressive 1-0 win at Old Trafford late last month, Villa have slipped to five successive Premier League defeats, with their performance this evening having provided little hope of an upturn in form any time soon.
In turn, it should not come as too much of a surprise to hear of calls beginning to mount for manager Dean Smith to be sent on his way.
Social media has been awash with Villa supporters urging their side’s board to take immediate action on Friday night, with just some of the highlights showcased below:
