As Tottenham confirm two deadline day departures, a 3rd deal collapses

A trio of updates surrounding the efforts of the transfer team at Tottenham Hotspur to clear the deadwood from the club’s squad on deadline day have been provided.

The first comes in the form of a confirmed departure from Antonio Conte’s squaad.

The player to have moved on? Bryan Gil.

Spanish wide-man Gil of course only made the move to north London last summer, after catching the eye of those in a position at Spurs courtesy of his stellar exploits with Eibar.

After struggling to nail down a first-team spot under either Nuno Espirito Santo or Antonio Conte, though, the decision was made that a loan move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium would best benefit the 20-year-old’s development.

And, in a series of posts across the club’s social media platforms, Spurs a short time ago made such a move official, with Gil having linked up with La Liga giants Valencia for the remainder of the campaign:

*Update* – a 2nd imminent departure from the Lilywhites’ ranks has since too been confirmed, with Giovani Lo Celso primed to link up with Unai Emery’s Villarreal on loan.

Bergwijn remains

One member of the attacking setup at Tottenham set to stay put for the remainder of the season, however, comes in the form of Steven Bergwijn.

Despite a number of starring recent displays, wide-man Bergwijn was widely tipped to follow the likes of Gil and Lo Celso out the revolving doors in north London on Monday, amid intense interest on the part of Dutch giants Ajax.

As confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, however, negotiations between the two clubs have ultimately failed to bear fruit.

This comes with Daniel Levy and co. having made clear that they would not be willing to part with Bergwijn for any less than 25 million euros.
