An update on Manchester United’s managerial hunt has been provided recently.

This obviously comes with the Red Devils still needing to appoint a permanent successor to Ralf Rangnick, who is expected to give up his duties at the end of this season.

But how close are United to appointing a permanent boss? As per the Telegraph, United’s search for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s successor is being led by football director John Murtough and technical director Darren Fletcher.

It is added that the research phase of the process to find a permanent manager was completed around the start of March, with feelers then put out to third parties to gauge interest levels.

One figure seemingly of interest is Ajax’s Erik ten Hag, who is believed to have been interviewed for the job on Monday.

Manchester United are also interviewing other candidates from a shortlist featuring Mauricio Pochettino, Luis Enrique and Julen Lopetegui.

Manchester United’s summer plans

In the same report, an insight into Manchester United’s summer plans has been provided.

Despite spending big in the summer and signing three top stars, Manchester United have struggled for any sort of consistent form and still have some glaring issues in the squad.

The main two are the lack of a proper defensive midfielder and a lack of options up top, with Cristiano Ronaldo and a soon-to-be out-of-contract Edinson Cavani their only current centre-forwards.

Both issues could be addressed in the summer, though, with the Telegraph claiming that United are keen to add a midfielder or two and a striker to their squad in the upcoming window.
