Thomas Partey opened the scoring on the day, being set up by Emile Smith Rowe.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang then made it 2-0 right before the break, with Smith Rowe then adding a 3rd for the Gunners after 56 minutes to kill the tie off.

Friday’s game would be the second time Smith Rowe has scored and assisted in a league game this season, doing so against Tottenham as well.

Carragher & Arteta on Smith Rowe

And now, after starring vs Aston Villa, Jamie Carragher has made a rather big claim about Smith Rowe.

The former Liverpool defender stated that Smith Rowe is the best player in the Premier League running with the ball:

“He will get England caps, absolutely no doubt. It’s a nice problem for Gareth Southgate to have with the abundance of young attacking players. “There’s no doubt he’ll get England caps but he’ll have to bide his time, I love this lad, I always want him to do well. And to watch him with full flow with the ball at his feet. He’s the best player in the Premier League running with the ball.

“He’s a special talent, he can pop up in different positions. If you’re a young attacking player, you have to have the ability to play in all of the front four positions now. And I think he can play all four and that’s a real bonus from him.”

Elsewhere, Mikel Arteta would discuss ESR post-match and appeared to suggest that his recent upturn in form has been in part due to the midfielder changing the way he is living and some of his habits:

“He still needs to develop more in other areas. The other night he wasn’t 100 per cent fit but he made a step forward and wanted to play with a difficult injury that he had. He wasn’t complaining, he was just looking forward.

“He’s changed the way he’s living a little bit as well, and some habits that he had. He’s been superb.”
