As Chelsea circle, major update provided on Ronald Araujo’s Barcelona future
A fresh insight into the future of star Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has been provided on Monday evening, and spells altogether positive news for the Blaugrana.
Stopper Araujo has of course enjoyed a fine campaign to date, acting as a rare source of consistency amid an otherwise hit-and-miss Barca backline.
In turn, it has not come as a major surprise to hear of those in a position of power at the Camp Nou pushing hard of late to tie the Uruguayan international down to fresh terms.
And, if the latest word stemming from the media on Monday evening is anything to go by, such efforts appear primed to bear imminent fruit.
As per a report from Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Araujo is indeed ‘close’ to committing his long-term future to Barcelona.
A number of clubs, chiefly from England in the form of Chelsea and Manchester United, are understood to have made their interest in luring Barca’s up-and-coming defensive stalwart to the Premier League ahead of next season.
Araujo himself, however, has maintained throughout that his wish remains to pen a new deal in the Catalan capital.
Such a stance has proven crucial amid negotiations between the parties, with an agreement surrounding the terms of a contract through the summer of 2027 inching towards completion.

Alba amongst the goals
Araujo’s latest fine display in Barcelona’s colours of course came just 24 hours ago, when Xavi Hernandez’s troops welcomed champions Atletico Madrid to the Camp Nou, for a crunch clash amid the battle for a top-4 berth in La Liga.
And, when all was said and done, it was the Blaugrana who emerged victorious, to climb back into the Spanish top-flight’s Champions League spots.
Jordi Alba, Gavi, Araujo himself and Dani Alves all managed to find the target over the course of a pulsating 90 minutes, to guide Barca to an eventual 4-2 triumph.
