Arsenal trio set to miss out on Norwich game due to U23 commitments

Arsenal’s terrible start

In case you hadn’t been informed, or yourself reminded Arsenal fans you know, every day, the Gunners spent the international break at the bottom of the Premier League table, having failed to even score a goal in their opening three games.

Despite spending the most money of any side in Europe this summer, the Gunners have found themselves on the end of 2-0 defeats to Chelsea and Brentford, as well as suffering a 5-0 humiliation at the hands of Manchester City in their most recent fixture.

In turn, pressure on Mikel Arteta is building, and a home match against Norwich (who sit level with Arsenal on zero points but have scored a goal) this weekend has suddenly become a must-win affair.

Fortunately, the Gunners should be blessed with close to a fully-fit squad, following the Covid-19 outbreaks and injury woes that they have suffered to date, and should be able to get their season up and running after the international break.

Trio to play U23s today

Three players who will not be in the squad to take on the canaries, however, are forward duo Eddie Nketiah and Folarin Balogun, as well as youth prospect Charlie Patino.

Patino had been training with the first team this week, prompting speculation that he may make the matchday squad, but it seems that Gunners will have to wait for their first view of him in senior football.

In addition, the move of Nketiah and Balogun to the U23s for the weekend suggests that Mikel Arteta is confident in the fitness of both of his senior forwards, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette.

For his sake, he will need them both firing against Norwich.
