Arsenal to allow Mikel Arteta to ‘spend significantly’ in January on one condition

Where do Arsenal need to improve?

Arsenal had one of their most successful transfer windows in recent memory this past summer.

They signed six players all of which, to varying degrees, have shown their effectiveness now and their potential to develop into even better players.

However, though a successful window it was, the summer of 2021 has still left some key issues in need of fixing.

Firstly, it is obvious at this point that Arsenal will need to sign a new striker in the near future.

Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are out of contract in the summer, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is out of favour, whilst the duo of Gabriel Martinelli and Flora Balogun are too young and too inexperienced to lead the line of a side with top-four aspirations.

Elsewhere, especially with Ainsley Maitland-Niles off to Roma, Arsenal are very much in need of a new central midfielder.

With Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny away on international duty, the Gunners currently have just Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga as senior central midfield options.

Martin Odegaard can play in that role, but it is obvious he is much better suited to playing further forward.

Arsenal to allow Arteta to spend

Luckily for Arsenal fans, however, it appears the club will allow Arteta to spend big in the current window despite a hefty outlay in the summer.

The Guardian report that Arsenal will let Mikel Arteta spend significantly to improve his squad in this transfer window, if the right players become available.

It is added that the Arsenal boss wants a midfielder and a striker, which makes sense given what we discussed above.
