Arsenal tipped as bizarre potential landing spot for Serge Aurier: ‘He would consider it’

A fresh update on the plans of ex-Tottenham Hotspur defender Serge Aurier has been forthcoming online on Thursday.

Spurs exit

The subject of Ivorian full-back Aurier’s future of course took centre stage in the media in the lead-up to this week’s transfer deadline.

This came with Nuno Espirito Santo having sanctioned a departure for the stopper, ahead of the arrival of Emerson Royal from Barcelona.

In the end, however, a buyer was ultimately not forthcoming for Aurier, forcing the hand of those in a position of power on the Lilywhite half of North London.

Daniel Levy and co. therefore came to the decision to terminate the contract of their once first-choice right-back, evidently of the opinion that Emerson, Matt Doherty and the rejuvenated Japhet Tanganga are more than capable of filling the right-hand side of Nuno’s backline over the course of the season ahead.

Emirates switch?

Aurier, as a result, is now available to be picked up as a free agent.

And, as outlined above, an altogether surprise potential landing spot has, on Thursday, been touted for the former PSG man.

The outfit in question? Arsenal.

As per a report from Michael Bridge of Sky Sports, citing transfer journalist Ekrem Konur, Aurier has already received proposals from clubs in all of France, Russia and Turkey.

However, the Ivorian himself would rather remain in England, and would, apparently, not be opposed to a move across North London, to link up with Arsenal.

Mikel Arteta, in turn, is said to be evaluating whether or not to sanction a move for the 28-year-old defender.

It must be noted, though, that Arsenal just recently secured the addition of Takehiro Tomiyasu, more than capable of lining out at right-back, as are all of fellow Gunners Calum Chambers, Cedric Soares and Ainsley Maitland-Niles.
