Arsenal test transfer waters with 25 million euro bid for Brazilian midfielder

Arsenal looking for midfield reinforcements

Arsenal and Mikel Arteta are on the hunt for midfield reinforcements as a matter of urgency.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles departing for Roma has left them with just Granit Xhaka and Albert Sambi Lokonga as senior options in central midfield for the month, with both Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Asked about the potential of bringing in a midfielder this January, the Arsenal boss claimed:

“We are very, very short at the moment. We are going to move and look for options because we are very short there”

One option could have been to bring Jack Wilshere, who has been training with the first team, into the fold, but it is an option that has since been ruled out by Arteta.

Meanwhile, rumours continue to swirl about Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. But now, Arsenal have reportedly sprung into action.

25 million euro bid tabled for Brazilian midfielder

According to reports coming out of Brazil, Arsenal have lodged a bid of 25 million euros for a Brazilian midfielder, but in bad news for Arsenal fans it is not the much-coveted Bruno Guimaraes.

Instead, they have seemingly plumped for youth again, offering Palmeiras a hefty sum for their 20-year-old midfielder Danilo.

The left-footed Brazilian, who has represented his current side on 83 occasions, operates largely as a defensive midfielder, but has also been deployed as a central midfielder on occasion.

However, the report goes on to claim that the bid, which consists of 20 million euros up front and a further 5 in potential add-ons, his current club are not currently minded to sell him and have rejected the bid. Under contract until 2025, and with a release clause set at 86 million pounds, they are under no pressure to sell their young star.

But, should more clubs come knocking, their hand may be forced by the player.
