Arsenal set to make “decisive bid” for Aaron Ramsdale as transfer frenzy begins

Long summer for Ramsdale

Arsenal have been chasing the signing of Aaron Ramsdale all summer long, as they look to find competent cover for Bernd Leno, and a future first-team shot-stopper.

While Football.London initially reported that Arsenal were in advanced talks for the shot-stopper last week, they later suggested that a move had broken down after a disagreement over potential fee.

However, the deal, as per sources in Sheffield, is not as closed off as previously thought, with Arsenal set to make a “decisive bid” for Ramsdale in the coming days. As per James Shield of the Sheffield Star, the bid is expected to be around 28 million pounds.

Were the Gunners to pull off the move, it would raise serious question marks over the future of current no.1 Leno, who turned in another questionable performance against Brentford on Friday.

However, if reports are to be believed, the German may soon have new, expensive, competition.

Other business in the pipeline

After a promising start, Arsenal have been somewhat quiet in the transfer window in recent weeks. Now, with two weeks left, they seem set to spring into action. As per John Cross, of the Mirror, the hierarchy are prepared to sanction up to three new additions before the window slams shut on August 31st.

One of those is believed to be Martin Odegaard, with the Gunners thought to be “cautiously optimistic” of completing a deal for the Norwegian, who spent the latter half of last season on loan at the club.

With another potentially being Aaron Ramsdale, a striker is also thought to be on the cards, depending on the future of Alexandre Lacazette. Alternative, if Arsenal can find a way to clear their log-jam at right-back, that is also a position that they would be keen to strengthen.

Swap deals for Barcelona’s Emerson Royal and Atletico Madrid’s Kieran Trippier have both been mooted but are not close, as the Athletic reports.

With not long left in the window, the Gunners have yet again backed themselves into a corner, with high expectations from fans and precious little to celebrate to date,
