Arsenal seal first signing of January window, but Gunners fans need not get hopes up ahead of deadline

Premier League giants Arsenal have on Monday confirmed a fresh addition to the club’s personnel ranks. Fans of the Gunners, however, need not get overly excited by the news…

The club’s first incoming of the January window? Auston Trusty.

As confirmed in a statement on the club’s official website, defender Trusty has opted to take his talents to north London from MLS outfit Colorado Rapids, for an undisclosed fee.

The 23-year-old, however, will not be at the disposal of Mikel Arteta for some time yet.

This comes with Trusty, who helped the Rapids to top spot in the MLS’ Western Conference in 2021, set to remain on loan in Denver for the remainder of the season.

And, from here, Arsenal’s intention is to farm their new defender out on another temporary stint away from the Emirates, this time in Europe, for the 2022/23 campaign.

‘No late signings expected’

Those of an Arsenal persuasion who remain hopeful of their side yet pulling a major signing out of the bag prior to the fast-approaching transfer deadline need not get their hopes up.

This comes with the only major piece of business left to be sorted by Edu Gaspar and the transfer team at the Emirates coming in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s imminent Barcelona switch.

As confirmed by the reliable Mark Mann-Bryans of the Press Association, beyond this, ‘no late signings’ are expected to link up with Mikel Arteta’s squad.
