Maitland-Niles left frustrated at Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder and Hale End Academy graduate has once again grown frustrated with life in north London due to his lack of match minutes this season at the Emirates.

Football.London cited a report in Mail Online that stated that the 24-year-old England international has become disillusioned with his role in the first team this season after missing out on a move away from the club in the summer.

Fellow Premier League outfit Everton seemed prime to offer the London-native an escape route to Goodison Park during the summer transfer window, but Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta ended up convincing Maitland-Niles to stay at the club with the caveat that his role in the first-team would increase. That has hardly come to fruition.

Instead, Maitland-Niles has featured in the starting XI on just two occasions this season in the Premier League in a pair of 1-0 wins against Norwich City and Watford, but apart from that, has hardly been given much of a sniff around a starting role. All told, he has earned just 263-minutes in the league this season, while starting two of the club’s three Carabao Cup clashes against AFC Wimbledon and Leeds United.

Now, the club could be under pressure to sell the midfielder as he may begin his search for more first-team football once again.

Gunners to lose two in midfield?

With the future of Ainsley Maitland-Niles at Arsenal being thrown into fresh doubt, the Gunners could be faced with a midfield shortage come the summer after reports earlier today mentioned Serie A outfit Fiorentina becoming adamant in their attempts to secure Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira on a permanent deal.

Torreira has enjoyed somewhat of a renaissance at the Artemio Franchi this season for La Viola under boss Vincenzo Italiano, helping the Firenze-based outfit to a 6th place spot at current, ahead of capital duo AS Roma and SS Lazio.

Arsenal would be set to receive a fee rumored to be €15million if the Italian side means to make the move permanent, but after Torreira failed to stake a claim for his place in the first-team under Mikel Arteta, it is likely that both clubs will eventually reach agreeable terms on a sale.
