Arsenal make informal inquiry over Diego Costa

Do Arsenal strikers need replacing?

One of Arsenal’s main priorities for the January window looks to be signing a striker, which makes sense given the current options on their books.

Alexandre Lacazette has been utilised as Arsenal’s main no.9 under Mikel Arteta. The Frenchman, though, is out of contract this summer.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is another experienced option at centre-forward, but he generally performs best on the left-wing. In addition, his future has been called into question following a recent disciplinary breach.

This leaves the inexperienced trio of Eddie Nketiah (out of contract in the summer), Gabriel Martinelli and Folarin Balogun – the latter of which is now on loan at Middlesbrough.

Arsenal in for Dusan Vlahovic

One of the main named linked with the Gunners has been Dusan Vlahovic.

Reports emerged on Tuesday that Fiorentina were set to accept Arsenal’s bid for Vlahovic.

Fresh claims over the weekend then suggested that Arsenal had submitted a new bid for the Serbian, believed to be €60m and Lucas Torreira, who is currently on loan at the Serie A outfit.

Arsenal eye Diego Costa?

Now though, it appears Arsenal are also making some potential contingency plans should they not land Vlahovic.

According to GOAL’s Brazilian site, Arsenal have made an informal inquiry about the striker:

Diego Costa has been arousing the interest of several clubs in the market. According to GOAL, in recent days it was Arsenal’s turn, from England, to make an informal consultation to find out about the player’s plans.

Costa is currently without a club after spending some time with Brazilian outfit Atletico-MG.

The 33-year-old would score five and assist one in 19 outings for Atletico-MG.
