Arsenal fans get excited as Gabriel Martinelli celebrates Olympic glory with Gunners-linked Guimaraes
Arsenal’s supporters have taken to social media in numbers this evening, to lightheartedly respond to Gabriel Martinelli’s involvement in Brazil’s Olympic celebrations.
Malcom’s strike proves decisive
Martinelli’s Selecao were of course back in action a short time ago.
The South American heavyweights made the trip to the Nissan Stadium, hopeful of making up for their Copa America finale heartbreak with an Olympic gold medal.
And, when all was said and done in Yokohama, this is precisely what the Brazilians managed.
A hard-fought affair was ultimately sent to extra-time, after Mikel Oyarzabal cancelled out Matheus Cunha’s opener on the hour mark.
Zenit St. Petersburg wide-man Malcom, though, provided the afternoon’s telling moment with 108 minutes on the clock, surging down the left flank, before picking out the far corner in style:
Brazil are ahead in the #Tokyo2020 men’s football final!
Malcom scores in the second half of extra time.

Brazil, in turn, held on, to retain their Olympic title, and add yet another piece of silverware to the burgeoning cabinet of world football’s most decorated player – Dani Alves.

As outlined above, though, in the aftermath of the action coming to a close in Japan, it is another of Brazil’s stars who has instead piqued the attentions of the supporters of one Premier League club.
The outfit in question? Arsenal. The player? Gabriel Martinelli.
Young attacker Martinelli is of course fresh off the back of a difficult 2nd season in North London, having been hampered by both injuries and competition for places.
This afternoon, though, the 20-year-old added an Olympic gold medal to his resume.
And, amid their up-and-coming starlet’s post-match celebrations, some sections of the Arsenal fanbase could not help but have their interest piqued by one social media post in particular.
This comes with Martinelli having taken to Instagram, to unveil a photo of himself alongside midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, hotly tipped for a potential Emirates switch this summer:
