Arsenal duo closing in on Cristiano Ronaldo & Wayne Rooney record

Leeds vs Arsenal

Arsenal will be back in Premier League action vs Leeds United on Saturday evening.

The sides face off in the late kick-off, just the second game of the day currently scheduled to go ahead amid the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak at many Premier League sides.

Arsenal head into the game sitting 4th in the Premier League table, though 6th-placed Manchester United would overtake them, should the Red Devils win their game in hand on the Gunners.

Regardless, Arsenal will no doubt be keen to press on and further extend their lead in the top-four race for the time being.

And they will likely fancy their chances of doing so against a Leeds side struggling for both form and fitness.

Saka & Smith Rowe close to Cristiano Ronaldo & Wayne Rooney record

Ahead of the game, it has been revealed that a pair of Arsenal stars are closing in on a Premier League record.

The duo in question? Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka. The pair have been two of Arsenal’s brighter sparks over what has been a dismal period for the club.

Smith Rowe, in particular, looks to be hitting his stride this season – netting six and assisting two in 15 league outings so far this term, including a crucial strike vs West Ham earlier this week.

Now, as revealed by, Smith Rowe and Saka are closing in on a record which is currently held by then Manchester United teammates, Cristiano Ronaldo and Wayne Rooney:

Emile Smith Rowe and Bukayo Saka have assisted each other for six Premier League goals, two-shy of the record involving players 21-years-old or under, held by Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Rooney and Ronaldo assisted each other on eight occasions before the latter turned 22.

With Smith Rowe not turning 22 until July of next year, you would assume the Arsenal pair could break that record by the end of this seaosn.
