Arsenal close in on pair of deals and hold “genuine interest” in player swap

Arsenal transfer news

Pair of deals close

Firstly, some good news was forthcoming for Arsenal fans yesterday, as it became clear that a pair of deals were close.

Firstly, Arsenal’s creative woes have been addressed somewhat, as Martin Odegaard is set to rejoin the club from Real Madrid, this time on a permanent basis.

The Norwegian spent the latter half of last season on loan at the Emirates, but has been convinced to make the switch permanent ahead of the upcoming season.

Additionally, Arsenal are on the verge of signing Sheffield United goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale, who has been their no.1 target for the entire summer. The deal is expected to be completed ahead of Sunday’s game against Chelsea, setting the club back up to 30 million pounds.

Ramsdale was conspicuously absent from Sheffield United’s squad last night, as they fell 4-0 to West Brom, and the Blades manager said after the game that:

“The deal is not complete but it’s agreed between the clubs. I believe the agreement is close to being done but it can be soon.”

These deals will take the number of incomings at Arsenal this summer to five, and will give the fanbase some additional hope after a disappointing opening day defeat to Brentford.

“Genuine interest” in right-back player swap

However, Arsenal’s summer business may not be over just yet. What they can achieve in the last fortnight of the window, by all accounts, largely hinges on outgoings. One avenue being explored, however, is swap deals.

As per Football.London correspondent Chris Wheatley, one of those that could be involved in a swap deal is right-back Hector Bellerin.

As per Wheatley’s report, the club hold “genuine interest” in engineering a swap deal with Atletico Madrid that would see Bellerin join the capital club in exchange for fellow right-back Kieran Trippier’s arrival in north London.

Trippier, of course, spent several years of his career at Tottenham Hotspur, so it would be intriguing to see the fans reaction to such a move.

Torreira set to head back to Italy

Finally, it could be that the mysterious case of Lucas Torreira could be finally set to end. The Uruguayan has been away from Arsenal since the beginning of the summer, and posted a picture of himself on holiday even as his side slumped to a 2-0 defeat to Brentford.

Now, however, it seems that a return to Italy is on the cards, with Chris Wheatley reporting that he is attracting the interest of “several Italian sides”.

It seems impossible that Arsenal will be able to recoup even a fraction of the 25 million pounds that they brought him to the club for, but it would be another player off the books as Arteta now looks to thin out his squad.
