Arsenal braced for another Mohammed Elneny bid as Galatasaray make contact

Elneny interests Galatasaray

Although the English transfer window closed last week, Turkish sides are allowed to continue altering their squads until the evening of the 8th September. One player who could yet find himself heading to eastern Europe could be Arsenal’s midfielder Mohammed Elneny, with Galatasaray having reportedly “made contact” with the Gunners over the possibility of signing the 29 year old.

Elneny has just 12 months left to run on his current deal in north London, and despite making 23 appearances in the Premier League last season, appears firmly fourth choice behind Thomas Partey, Granit Xhaka and new arrival Sambi Lokonga.

Indeed, across the opening three games of the season, the Egyptian was only called upon after Xhaka’s sending off, and his chances of playing in red and white anytime soon have taken a hit due to an injury sustained in a friendly against Brentford.

However, while report that the bid from Galatasary has been rejected, they do concede that “the club would be open to letting him leave for the right price”.

Arsenal’s midfield shortage

As previously mentioned, Arsenal currently have at least three options ahead of Elneny vying for game-time, and would lose the Egyptian for a month of the season anyway due to Africa Cup of Nations duty, which will also see them without Partey.

With Xhaka’s ability to see red, and Partey’s tendency for injury since he joined the club, it could be seen as foolish to let Elneny depart the club, but the Gunners could have a ready-made replacement in the form of Ainsley Maitland-Niles, while opportunities could also be given to young star Charlie Patino, who excelled against Brentford.

With that in mind, and with this being the last chance for Arsenal to recoup a fee for Elneny, parting ways could be the best option for all parties involved.
