Apple targets 25% Indian production share, government official reveals

Apple aims to move 25% of its production to India, the Asian country’s trade minister has revealed. At a business conference, Piyush Goyal said that around 5-7% of Apple products are currently made in India, and the goal is to increase that number fivefold.

The official did not provide a timeline, and Apple did not comment on the statement.

This is not the first time we have heard of such a change. Previously, analysts predicted that 25% of iPhone production would move to India by 2025, and Foxconn would increase its workforce at the factory just outside the city of Chennai.

The main reason Apple is moving away from China and Foxconn is diversifying production across multiple factories are uncertainties surrounding COVID-19 lockdowns and restrictions and geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington.
