Apple reportedly working on smart display for smart home control

Apple just showed off its latest smart speaker earlier today, but the company’s smart home plans are far more ambitious, a new report reveals. According to the ubiquitous “people with the plans” Apple is working on a bunch of devices that will allow it to better compete with Google and Amazon in the space.

The upcoming push will start with a smart display which will essentially be a low-end iPad that you can mount on walls or elsewhere using “magnetic mounts”. This will be able to control your smart home products such as thermostats and lights, play videos and also manage FaceTime chats.

Google’s Nest Hub

This device will exist because countertop and wall-mounted devices like this have apparently become increasingly popular, and Amazon, with the Echo Show, and Google, with its Nest Hub, already have similar products on the market. Apple’s smart display is expected to arrive next year.

“Home support” for current iPads is something Apple could also consider. Even larger smart home displays have also been discussed internally at Apple, but it doesn’t appear the decision to launch one has been made.

The Apple TV is said to have a faster processor in its next iteration, which should arrive in the first half of next year, keeping the same design as the current model. A device that combines an Apple TV box with a smart speaker and a FaceTime camera is also in the works, but there have been several setbacks for this project – the finalized product was originally supposed to come out this year, but now it’s unclear when. it could come to market.
