Apple will soon remove iTunes from its latest platform – Windows. Microsoft has announced that it is adding preview versions of three new Apple apps – Apple Music, Apple TV and Apple Devices – as part of the Windows 11 Insider Preview release.

Apple Music will respond to a Windows user’s local music library and give them access to the paid Apple Music service.

Apple TV will bundle Apple’s TV+ subscription with original content, as well as content from Paramount+, AMC+, Showtime, Starz and others. You will also find your movies purchased on iTunes and can rent new versions.

Apple devices will support syncing with Apple devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod), as well as local backup and restore and emergency software updates – this feature has been moved to the macOS Finder when you connect an iPhone.

That leaves Podcasts and Books as the only meaningful iTunes features left out of Apple Music, TV, and Devices. It’s unclear if Apple will later add them to the new apps or if it’s planning a fourth app just for them.

Microsoft warns that installing any of these new preview apps will break iTunes on Windows, so keep that in mind if you have a large, organized local library. Uninstalling new apps will allow you to install iTunes again.
