Apple orders OLED panels for iPad Pro, the first to arrive in 2024

Apple has placed orders for OLED panels for future iPad Pro and MacBook Pro devices, Korean sources have revealed. According to insiders, 11″ and 12.9″ tablets are expected to arrive in 2024, while laptops with the new panels are slated for 2026.

The source also says collapsible panels are being considered, but there are no specific plans for that.

Apple currently uses the LCD screen for its iPad Pro 11 and iPad Pro 12.9 tablets. The new panels are currently under development and manufacturing on a limited scale, and it will be some time before they are available for final assembly.

The situation with MacBook Pro is similar – the 14″ and 16″ versions should eventually make the switch. Until now, Apple has only used OLED for the Touch Bar, and it’s been dropped from 2022 laptops.

Apple is pushing for the adoption of OLED to bring more competition in the manufacture of these, possibly reducing the price of the panel. Samsung Display and LG Display are expected to be the main suppliers, as both companies have strong ties with Cupertino, as they already supply panels for iPhones.
