Tottenham vs West Ham

Tottenham are in League Cup action on Wednesday evening, face off with London rivals, West Ham.

The winner of the clash will join Arsenal, then two of Chelsea, Brentford, Liverpool and Leicester in the competition’s semi-finals.

With Spurs now out of the Europa Conference League, the League Cup looks set to represent Spurs’ best chance of winning a trophy this term, something Antonio Conte is no doubt keen to do.

West Ham, though, are not expected to prove a pushover and have a solid record against the big sides this year.

What Tottenham must improve

Ahead of the game, Antonio Conte has been discussing Tottenham and how the club have improved since he arrived.

And, whilst he admitted that the team are improving, the Italian did also state that the team have to improve in the physical and tactical aspect:

“This team has to improve the level and the physical aspect and the tactical aspect if you want to try to be competitive in this season.

“I know very well it’s not easy when you come into the season and you didn’t start the season. When you start the season you have three or four weeks of time to prepare your team but I’m enjoying working with these players because they are showing me great energy and will and desire to improve every aspect.

“We are doing this. I have seen the stats. Our stats are improving a lot.”

Given Tottenham’s last two permanent coaches were Nuno Espirito Santo and Jose Mourinho, it is easy to see why the squad are not up to the physical standards Conte wants, but he is sure to get them there in the near future.
