Antonio Conte issues double injury update for Tottenham and pleads for transfers

Antonio Conte issues double injury update for Tottenham and pleads for transfers

Tottenham to take on Leicester City

Tottenham take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Wednesday evening, after the original meeting was postponed due to COVID-19 cases in both camps.

Should Spurs continue their unbeaten league run under Antonio Conte and come away from the clash with all three points, they will leapfrog north London rivals Arsenal, which will be ever sweeter given recent events between the clubs.

However, it won’t be easy, with Leicester ready to welcome back a whole host of their first team after long absences for the clash.

Conte issues injury and transfer updates

Now, ahead of the tie, Antonio Conte spoke about a pair of injuries, and seemingly pleaded for movement in the transfer market.

The Italian coach was quizzed on Cristian Romero, who has been injured since November, and offered a positive update, revealing:

“Cristian is improving and he’s working with us. For sure we have to try to respect the right time for his recovery. He had a serious injury. Now he’s very close to coming back with us & being available for games. For sure, after the international break he’ll be available.

Steven Bergwijn is another raring to go after an injury setback, but Eric Dier will still be missing for the Leicester game:

Bergwijn has recovered from his calf injury and was already in the squad against Arsenal. For Eric [Dier], we have to wait a bit, and also have a bit of patience, and not take a risk.

And, as for the transfer market, Spurs have been linked very heavily with Adama Traore, but so far no movement either in or out has occurred on the white side of north London.

Conte is eager for this to change, however. The Italian claimed:

I know that the transfer window in January is always very difficult and it is more simple when you start the season to buy important players. In January it is not easy, but at the same time we know very well that if there is the opportunity and also if it’s not the best opportunity, but we need to do something.

Also if I repeat that this could not be the best opportunity but I think that we are in a situation where we have to try to implement the squad because the squad is not so big.

Willing to sacrifice top targets to ensure bodies through the door, will Conte get his wish?
