Another season on the fringes? Donny van de Beek’s agent confirms midfielder has no guarantees over playing time at Man United

Does Van de Beek have a future at Man United?

Donny van de Beek signed for Man United during the delayed summer window last year, setting the Red Devils back around £35m.

Van de Beek had spent his previous years impressing with Ajax, and at £35m, looked a fairly decent buy for United.

However, despite the midfielder being signed under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s watch, the Norwegian refused to hand the 24-year-old any sort of regular game-time throughout 2020/21.

Van de Beek made 19 Premier League appearances, but just three of those saw him complete 90 minutes – two of which came right at the end of the campaign when United had nothing left to play for.

Despite his limited minutes, Van de Beek would remain at Old Trafford during the summer transfer window.

Van de Beek has no guarantees

The midfielder is now set to be at United until at least January. However, his situation does not look to have changed that much over the summer.

The Red Devils have so far played three Premier League games this term. Van de Beek was on the bench for all of the ties, but never made it onto the field.

This comes despite Fred putting on several questionable displays already in 2021/22.

So, given how little he featured last term and the fact he has not been used so far this season, why did Van de Beek’s agent not look to move him before the window shut on August 31st?

Some may believe that Solskjaer has given the Dutchman guarantees over his playing time this season, which is why he did not move on.

However, when speaking recently, Van de Beek’s agent would confirm that his client has no guarantees over playing time:

“Coaches will never do this. So no, he won’t get guarantees and I think that’s fair. Coaches have to do their jobs and players have to do their job.

“In the end, if you get the chance and you get the minutes, you are in shape and you play well, you are responsible for your own career. He is not looking for guarantees. He is working hard every day and if he gets his chance he will go for it.”
