Android 14 Developer Preview 1 released

Google has released the first developer preview of Android 14 and it brings our very first look at the upcoming version of the operating system. Security is an important consideration with every new version of Android and version 14 will block the installation/sideloading of older Android apps that target older versions of the OS. Google is also making a ton of system-level security enhancements, including runtime receivers and dynamic read-only code loading to prevent any possibility of code injection. Support for Credential Manager and Passkey is also built-in for easy authentication and password management.

Android 14 will come with a neat accessibility feature called nonlinear font scaling. Users will be able to scale system fonts by 200% and the operating system will also apply specific scaling for smaller submenu text items. Android 14 will also offer new customization options that build on the efforts seen in the Material You design introduced in Android 12.
