Android 13 QPR2 Beta 2 is now rolling out to participating Pixels

Google launched the first beta of QPR2 last month, allowing participating Pixel owners to test out upcoming “Pixel Drop” features before they are released on a future OTA update. This week, Google is rolling out the latest version of the beta with bug fixes, new emoji, and other tweaks. Pixels dating back to the Google Pixel 4a are eligible to participate in this beta round.

New OS tweaks included with QPR2 Beta 2 include the latest Unicode 15.0 along with a handful of new emoji and there’s a new Google Home icon below the device controls. Meanwhile, the lava lamp effect on the media player is no longer present.

A bug that sometimes caused the system UI to crash has been fixed in this release. A fix was also released for a bug that caused the video camera to get stuck in slow motion shooting mode after switching back to normal video mode.

Be aware that there are indeed a few known issues with the latest version of QPR2, as you would expect from any beta release of any operating system. Recent apps have been known to freeze when the device orientation is changed in this window. You may experience “Settings” app crashing after entering and exiting PiP (picture in picture) mode after changing screen orientation. Finally, the system UI may crash due to a “null pointer exception”.
