Amid claims Arsenal switch remains alive, Lyon boss confirms Houssem Aouar ‘can leave’

As speculation continues to point towards a potential Arsenal switch this summer, Olympique Lyonnais boss Peter Bosz has confirmed that he has no intention of blocking Houssem Aouar’s exit.

Arteta eyeing reinforcements

The subject of the attacking midfield spot at the Emirates has of course taken centre stage in the media chatter on the back of the 2020/21 campaign coming to a close.

This comes with Arsenal having struggled for central creativity throughout much of a disappointing season.

The eventual emergence of Emile Smith Rowe proved a huge plus, whilst Martin Odegaard did a solid if unspectacular job following his loan arrival during the January window.

Mikel Arteta, however, is evidently of the opinion that his side remains in need of another spark.

This, in turn, led the board in North London to sanction a big-money swoop for Norwich City star Emi Buendia early in the summer. In the end, though, Arsenal were somewhat surprisingly beaten to the Argentine’s signature by Premier League rivals Aston Villa.

‘He can leave’

If the latest word doing the rounds in the media is anything to go by, however, then the Gunners’ search for creative reinforcements remains very much alive.

The name chiefly tipped for an Emirates switch of late has of course come in the form of Leicester City standout James Maddison.

But, as the King Power hierarchy continue to stand firm in their considerable demands for such a key member of Brendan Rodgers’ squad, Arsenal could yet be forced to move onto yet another target.

If such a scenario is indeed forthcoming, though, then Arteta and co. appear to have a backup plan very much in mind.

As reported by reliable French journalist Mohamed Bouhafsi, during an appearance on the Twitch stream of transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Houssem Aouar linking up with the capital outfit over the weeks ahead remains a real ‘possibility’.

The Gunners could face competition for the Frenchman – long linked with a move to the club – though, from North London rivals Tottenham.

Coincidentally, the renewed links between Aouar and Arsenal have actually come to the fore less than 24 hours on from new Lyon boss Peter Bosz confirming that, should a sufficient offer be forthcoming this summer, his side’s midfield star will likely be sold.

‘Aouar? He can leave,’ Bosz explained to

‘This is modern football. Up until the last moment, he can leave.’
