American businessman Chris Kirchner announces intention to buy Derby County

US businessman Chris Kirchner intent on Derby purchase

Derby County are in a near-unrecoverable mess as things stand in the Championship, but US businessman Chris Kirchner may be set to ride over the hill and save the fortunes of the East Midlands club.

As reported by the Guardian, the 34-year-old Kirchner – owner of global logistics company Slync.io – made his intentions known in a full statement of intent;

“We don’t know each other yet, but we have two things in common: our love for the game of football and our desire to rebuild Derby County back into the proud club everyone deserves.

My name is Chris Kirchner and I hope to see many of you soon – as this is my official announcement of my intention to work with the administrators to take Derby County Football Club out of administration.

Derby County is a club with a rich history and one of the best groups of supporters in all of England.

While the club is currently going through a really tough time, it is the supporters, and everyone associated with the club that have stayed loyal which provide the foundation to rebuild again.

I want to be a part of that rebuild and support that effort. As an entrepreneur I am committed to building companies and I want to apply that experience towards rebuilding this proud and storied club.”

A better platform than the table suggests

Despite Derby sitting in administration, bottom of the Championship, and rumored to be considering a January fire sale to offset debts the club has accrued, manager Wayne Rooney has been performing admirably on the touchline at Pride Park.

With just three defeats on record thus far in the 2021-22 league campaign (only Bournemouth (1st) and West Brom (3rd) have fewer), Rooney’s Rams boast a very credible defensive record that is joint-second in the league with the Baggies after only conceding 11-goals in fourteen matches.

Goals are certainly at a premium under the former Manchester United icon (10 in 14) but an actual point total of 17-points (3-8-3) would have Derby in 15th rather than 24th and comfortably in mid-table if not for a points deduction given the club having to go into administration.

Should Kirchner come in and arrest the financial nightmare Derby are currently in, it is fair to say that Rooney – with some crafty transfer backing – could get the club on the right track before the season came to an end.
