AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Release Date, Price & Specs Rumors
AMD’s remarkable rise in recent years means that it is now one of the world’s leading component manufacturers. Much of the growth has been led by its Ryzen processors, which have proven to be more than a match for Intel.
There’s been a lot of excitement around the new Ryzen 7000 series, which AMD launched in August 2022. But the bulk of its processors are usually announced at CES, and that was certainly the case in 2023. Here’s all What you need to know.
AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Release Date
AMD unveiled the first Ryzen 7000 series processors on August 29, 2022. That’s earlier than expected, but it makes sense considering there were no desktop processors in the Ryzen 6000 series.
These first four desktop chips went on sale from September 27, 2022, but that was just the start.
During its keynote at CES on January 4, 2023, AMD unveiled the bulk of its Ryzen 7000 Series lineup. There were several other desktop processors, and versions without the new 3D V-Cache were released on January 10.
AMD hasn’t confirmed when those with the new technology will be available initially, but that has now been revealed. The Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Ryzen 9 7900X3D will be available on February 28, but we will have to wait until April 6 for the Ryzen 7 7800X3D.
In terms of mobile processors, we know that the high-end Ryzen 7045 series (known as the “Dragon line”) will be available in devices from March, but some less powerful Ryzen 7000 laptops may be released before then. date. As usual, many more devices are expected throughout 2023 and beyond.

AMD unveiled the following desktop processors at CES 2023. We initially only suggested new US prices for those without 3D cache, but the others were revealed in a Tweet from February 2022:

Remember that this is probably not what you will end up paying. Individual retailers can choose the price at which to sell processors, so there will likely be variations.
Laptop processors are designed to be integrated into devices and are not available as standalone components. How much you pay will therefore depend on many other factors, including other key specs and the brand in question.
AMD Ryzen 7000 Series Specs and Features
Many key features of the Ryzen 7000 series were announced alongside the first desktop processors in August 2022. The new processors move to a 5nm process and adopt the Zen 4 architecture that was launched alongside them, which , according to AMD, takes “gaming and content creation performance”. leadership to new levels”.

You may notice four new processors ending in “3D”, which adds more L2 and L3 cache than the regular versions. This aims to improve responsiveness and frame rates without significant effect on clock speeds or overclocking capabilities.
All new desktop processors are based on AMD’s latest Zen 4 architecture and are compatible with existing AM5 motherboards, provided you update the BIOS. Other key features of all new processors include PCIe Gen 5 support and DDR5 memory (DDR4 has been discontinued).
Inside each Ryzen 7000 desktop processor you’ll find three chiplets; two 5nm Zen 4 CPU modules and a new 6nm I/O die with integrated RDNA 2 graphics, as well as DDR5 and PCIe 5.0 controllers and integrated power management. This means that each chip has a certain level of graphics power, with a separate graphics card only needed for gaming or other very demanding workloads.
The Zen 4 architecture the chips are based on will deliver “more than 15%” improvement in single-threaded performance over Zen 3 according to AMD, but with the caveat that new chips may need more power to deliver this level of performance.
AMD unveiled its first Ryzen 7000 series laptop processors in September 2022. Known as “Mendocino”, the Ryzen 7020 series is specifically designed for everyday laptops, offering options for Athlon chips base and classic Ryzen 3 and 5 processors:

- Ryzen 3 7320U – 4 cores, 8 threads, 4.1GHz max clock speed, 6Mp cache, 8-15W TDP
- Athlon Gold 7220U – 2 cores, 4 threads, 3.7 GHz max clock speed, 5 Mp cache, 8-15 W TDP
All three are based on improved versions of the Zen 2 architecture and use the 6nm process rather than stepping up to 5nm. AMD specifically highlights their benefits for battery life, with up to 12 hours possible on some systems. However, this will depend on a variety of factors, including battery capacity, screen size, and brightness.
It pairs with the latest Radeon 610M integrated graphics, which AMD says can deliver 720p gaming at over 60 frames per second. You also get support for up to four displays and DDR5 RAM.
Compared to Intel’s 11th Gen i3-1115G4 core, AMD claims the new Ryzen 3 7320U is up to 80% faster in file compression, up to 57% faster in multitasking, and up to 31% faster in “office productivity” – scenarios that are important to many people. You can also expect up to 31% faster app launches. But there are no direct comparisons with the more recent 12th and 13th generations, both of which have made significant improvements.
But it was at CES 2023 that we saw the bulk of the new processors being announced. These are divided into Ryzen 7030 series (thin and light laptops), Ryzen 7035 series (premium thin and light laptops), Ryzen 7040 series (ultra-thin elite laptops) and Ryzen 7045 series (computers gaming laptops/extreme creators). Here is a summary of what each offers:
- Ryzen 7045 series – Zen 4 architecture, up to 16 cores/32 threads, 5nm node, up to 80MB cache, DDR5 memory
- Ryzen 7040 series – Zen 4 architecture, up to 8 cores/16 threads, 4nm node, up to 20MB cache – DDR5/LPDDR5 memory
- Ryzen 7035 series – Zen 3+ architecture, up to 8 cores/16 threads, 6nm node, up to 20MB cache, DDR5/LPDDR5 memory
- Ryzen 7030 series – Zen 3 architecture, up to 8 cores/16 threads, 7nm node, up to 20MB cache, DDR4/LPDDR4 memory
- Ryzen 7020 series – Zen 2 architecture, up to 4 cores/8 threads, 6nm node, up to 6MB cache, LPDDR5 memory.
Naturally, AMD wants to draw particular attention to the high-end Ryzen 7045 series, a new addition for this year. Known as the “Dragon Range”, it’s designed to fit into the most powerful laptops you can buy and capable of AAA gaming or almost any other demanding workload.
It’s headlined by the top-end Ryzen 9-7945X, which features 16 massive performance cores and 32 threads. Intel’s equivalent Core i9-13980HX has a total of 24 cores, but 16 of them are for efficiency. With that in mind, AMD claims it can deliver a 78% performance boost on Cinebench, a popular metric of CPU rendering performance.
The 7040 and 7035 series are less exciting by comparison, offering just 8 cores and 16 threads, but these will likely find their way into high-end laptops that consumers won’t consider. However, it’s worth remembering that the latter uses the Zen 3+ architecture rather than the latest Zen 4.
Most new high-end laptop processors are designed to be paired with discrete GPUs. AMD released four of the RX 7000 series. However, there are no successors for all RX 6000 series, which continue to hold up well.
New naming system
Starting with the Ryzen 7000 series, AMD is introducing a new naming system for its processors. In a blog post, the company says this is partly due to “the influx of new SOCs into the new categories we’re developing.” Each number and letter represents something specific, allowing users to quickly identify key information about a specific processor.
Judging by AMD’s specs and claims, it looks like the Ryzen 7000 series will be a force to be reckoned with among desktops and laptops alike. They look set to take on Intel again, which also announced most of its 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors at CES 2023.
