Young Ivorian starlet Amad Diallo was given a numbers boost and will now wear 16 this season, but questions still remain whether or not he will spend the season at Old Trafford or elsewhere given United’s deal for Jadon Sancho.
Despite Marcus Rashford currently sidelined through injury, the Red Devil’s are hardly short of attacking options under Ole Gunnar Solskjær this season, with the England pair joined by Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Daniel James, and Jesse Lingard all capable out wide. With six senior players ahead of him, opportunities could remain slim for the NXGN athlete, with United reportedly open to shipping him out for the season.
Highly-touted Swedish U21 international Anthony Elanga has also been graced with a new kit number, swapping 56 for 36 this term. Elanga was United’s young player of the year back in 2020 and has already impressed this pre-season. Capable of being deployed as a winger or through the center-forward channel, Elanga could offer a long-term solution through the middle. With United relying on just Edinson Cavani (out of contract at the end of the season) and Anthony Martial as their number 9 options, there is scope for Elanga to compete for minutes in the cup competitions this season.
Shola Shoretire, also given a number change before the official start of the domestic season for the Red Devil’s, remains on the outside looking in at the moment despite having already made his debut for the club last season. At the very least, the triumvirate of youngsters seemingly remain in the long-term scheme for United moving forward.
