All You Need to Know About Wimbledon Championships 2021 Spectators Capacity

Tennis stadiums do not welcome as many fans as soccer or other sports. However, the concise and closed environment due to limited capacity creates an unrivaled atmosphere. Just sitting in the Centre Court at Wimbledon Championships and soaking in all the energy will give you goosebumps.

Regarded as one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, the All England Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club has 18 grass courts. And the most significant of them all is the Centre Court, where the notable matches are played, including the finals.

The interesting questions are: What is the capacity is at the All England Club? And what is the seating capacity at the Centre Court and Court No.1?

Seating capacity of Centre Court and Court No.1, Wimbledon

Most tennis players dream of playing at the Centre Court lawn of Wimbledon. Others, who couldn’t be tennis professionals, look forward to witnessing the sport from the stands.

Notably, the Centre Court of Wimbledon Championships has 14,979 seats, with a maximum spectator capacity of 15,000. Also, it hosts the best matches of the day during the 13 days of the Championships.

In 2008, the capacity was last updated with additional 1,200 seats. The Centre Court even has a retractable roof, which pumps 8 liters/per sec./per person of fresh air for an ulterior experience.

Comparatively, Centre Court No.1 is marginally smaller; it has 12,345 seats installed. All other championship courts have a lower spectator capacity. Overall, the All England Club has a maximum capacity of 42,000 fans at a given time.

Furthermore, Wimbledon has a new 8000 seats show court in their expansion plans. It would be their third-largest spectator capacity court and would host matches from 2030.

Attendance stats of Wimbledon Championships

In 2019, the Championships welcomed 500,397 fans over 13 days. Chiefly, it is the second-highest attendance record at Wimbledon.

For 2021, the stats would likely drop due to covid restriction on fans’ capacity. Except for the finals, which will host full crowds, all other matches will have a 50% spectator limit.
