All the damning stats behind Arsenal’s hammering at the hands of Man City

Man City vs Arsenal

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off would see Manchester City and Arsenal go head-to-head.

The Sky Blues headed into the clash looking to build on their 5-0 hammering of Norwich last time out.

Arsenal, meanwhile, did smash West Brom in the League Cup earlier in the week, but had lost their opening two PL games of 2021/22 before facing off with a City side whom they have a dismal record against in the league.

And that awful record looked set to continue when Ilkay Gundogan was able to outjump Calum Chambers to head City in front after just seven minutes:

Arsenal’s lackluster defending was on show less than five minutes later when a Bernardo Silva cross was able to make it through a host of Arsenal defenders to Ferran Torres who slotted past Bernd Leno.

And, minutes after Granit Xhaka was sent off, Gabriel Jesus made it 3-0 43 minutes in.

Arsenal’s woes continued shortly into the second half, when Rodri bent a curling effort past Leno from the edge of the box. Torres then rounded out the scoring after 84 minutes, handing City a 5-0 win.

The stats behind Arsenal’s horror start

After their thrashing at the hands of Manchester City, a host of very concerning stats have emerged to show just how dismal Arsenal’s start to the 2021/22 campaign has been.

Firstly, after going 2-0 down, Opta revealed that Saturday’s game was the earliest Arsenal have conceded twice from the start of a Premier League match since December 2017 when they played Manchester United:

This was then followed by it being confirmed that no player has been sent off more times than Granit Xhaka in the Premier League since his debut:

The damning stats were not done there, however, with it reported by Opta that Saturday’s game was only the second time that Arsenal have both had a man sent off and been 3-plus goals behind at half-time in a Premier League game:

All of the above stats would come to light inside the first 45 minutes of action at the Etihad.

But the horror statistics were not done there, however, with a whole host more emerging at full-time:
