Agent of Donny van de Beek confirms midfielder had offers from several countries but Man United would not let Dutchman leave

Donny Van de Beek’s tricky season

Donny Van de Beek joined Manchester United from Ajax to much fanfare in the summer of 2020, in a deal worth 35 million pounds.

However, his first season in England has been nothing short of a disaster. Brought in as a high-profile option in midfield, Van de Beek notched up just 511 minutes in the Premier League, spread across 19 appearances.

This works out at just 27 minutes per appearance, not giving Van De Beek a chance to demonstrate just why he was brought to Old Trafford in the first place.

Van De Beek’s agent speaks out

Amidst such a disappointing spell in Manchester, it is not surprising that a loan deal was mooted this summer. However, no loan deal has since materialised, and Van de Beek’s agent has since spoken out as to why.

Speaking to VI, he revealed that:

‘there was a lot of interest from Italy, Germany, England…so that looked good. But you need to cooperation of the club, and it looked like they would, but ultimately they didn’t. Disapoint, but also assuring for him so that he will get his chance, and will get his minutes, but this will become clear in due time.

He’s been promised that before, but we came to a clear agreement about this with the club, so we have all faith that it will happen now.”

When quizzed about his players happiness, however, van de Beek’s agent was more coy, saying:

‘I won’t say. But everybody who knows Donny knows he loves the game and he wants to be on the pitch every week. So from this answer you can probably tell what he wanted most.’

However, as per the Athletic’s Laurie Whitwell, no formal offer ever came in for the Dutchman, leaving him condemned to Old Trafford.

Will Van de Beek manage more minutes this season?
