Tottenham part ways with Nuno

Saturday evening’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester United was difficult watching for the neutral as much as it was for the Tottenham fans.

With no passion, drive or desire to win the game seemingly, Tottenham and Nuno Espirito Santo slumped to yet another defeat, their fifth in seven games, and leave the Portuguese manager’s job on the line.

The club have since confirmed that they have indeed parted ways with their coach.

In a statement, they said:

“The Club can today announce that Nuno Espírito Santo and his coaching staff Ian Cathro, Rui Barbosa and Antonio Dias have been relieved of their duties.

Fabio Paratici, Managing Director, Football, said: “I know how much Nuno and his coaching staff wanted to succeed and I regret that we have had to take this decision.

Nuno is a true gentleman and will always be welcome here. We should like to thank him and his coaching staff and wish them well for the future.”

Nuno Espirito Santo, of course, was a late Tottenham choice following failure in the summer to attract the likes of Graeme Potter, Antonio Conte, Erik Ten Hag and others to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium, leaving Espirito Santo as the last resort.

Conte open to the prospect of managing Spurs, on one condition

That may have now changed, however, with Antonio Conte thought to be keen on a return to management and, more specifically, Tottenham. Conte has been linked with Manchester United, but with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has since been granted a stay of execution, leaving Tottenham free to pounce.

However, it would be on conditions. As per reliable Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio:

“In order to say yes, the Italian coach will ask for the guarantee of an important technical and economic project.”

He continues that:

“Conte’s opening is there, now it’s up to Tottenham: to convince him he will have to put a multi-year contract on the table and the will to strengthen the team to make it more competitive.”

In short then, Conte would demand a new backroom team and hefty backing in the upcoming transfer markets, something that he was not given in the summer when he initially turned the role down.

Di Marzio has since continued to drop hints about Conte taking charge.

Could we see Conte in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium?
