After Eddie Howe appointment, Newcastle turn attentions to ex-Chelsea man

Newcastle United, according to reports, are giving serious consideration to the appointment of former Chelsea director Michael Emenalo.

Howe arrives

The highly-anticipated new era at Newcastle of course took a major step forward earlier today, courtesy of the long-awaited appointment of the club’s new manager.

On the back of the big-money Saudi takeover on Tyneside, and ensuing dismissal of Steve Bruce last month, speculation had since been rampant regarding just who would be entrusted with the reins on the bench at St. James’ Park.

A whole host of tacticians, including the likes of Unai Emery and Paulo Fonseca, were tipped for the post over the last couple of weeks.

On Monday afternoon, though, much to the relief of the Magpies faithful, confirmation was finally forthcoming that the club’s wealthy new owners had made their decision.

The man chosen to replace Bruce? Eddie Howe:

Emenalo to follow?

But, as outlined above, if the latest word doing the rounds in the media this evening is anything to go by, then the recruitment drive at St. James’ appears far from complete.

This comes with Amanda Staveley and co. having reportedly set their sights firmly on Michael Emenalo, to take up the position of director of football at the club.

Emenalo has ample Premier League experience in such a role, having taken his place in the boardroom at Chelsea from 2011 through 2017.

He has remained out of work since an ensuing two-year spell in France with Monaco, but, as per the reliable Matt Law and more, has been identified as the ‘top choice’ at Newcastle, on the back of a first round of talks in Saudi Arabia over the weekend:
