A new understanding of the power of connected health data could spark this change. In the United States, for example, the historically decentralized nature of healthcare has been a barrier, but recent legislation mandating EHR master data interoperability and asserting patient ownership of their healthcare data is a game-changer. .

“These two provisions have started a movement that I believe is unstoppable,” says Sutariya. “It’s already a game-changer, because the law says providers must share that data wherever the patient, who owns the data, tells them to share it.” After a long period of regulation, these provisions came into force at the end of 2022.
